Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
A planned, controlled and patient-focused approach to implant surgery, impacted wisdom tooth removal, tooth extraction and cyst-related procedures.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery includes surgical procedures related to teeth, jaw bones and oral soft tissues. At BY Istanbul, each surgical procedure is planned by combining clinical examination with necessary imaging findings to provide a controlled and understandable treatment process.
Planning is central to surgical care
No two surgical cases are identical. A simple extraction, impacted wisdom tooth removal, implant placement or cyst-related procedure may require different preparation and follow-up. At BY Istanbul, surgical decisions consider general health, medication use, imaging findings, infection risk and healing capacity.
Implant surgery and bone assessment
Implant surgery involves placing a titanium implant in an area with a missing tooth. Bone height, width, nearby anatomical structures and bite relationship are assessed before treatment. Some cases can proceed directly, while others may require additional procedures to improve bone support.
Impacted teeth and wisdom tooth removal
Wisdom teeth do not always need removal. Extraction may be recommended in cases of repeated infection, pain, pressure on adjacent teeth, decay, cyst-like findings or orthodontic planning. The tooth position, root shape and nerve relationship are evaluated radiographically.
A careful approach to cyst-related procedures
Cyst-like findings around the jaw bone or tooth roots may have different causes. Not every finding requires surgery; monitoring, root canal treatment or other dental care may be appropriate. When surgery is needed, location, size and nearby structures are assessed carefully.
Treatment Areas
A planned, controlled and patient-focused approach to implant surgery, impacted wisdom tooth removal, tooth extraction and cyst-related procedures.
Implant Surgery
Implant placement is planned after assessing bone structure and overall health in areas with missing teeth.
Impacted Tooth Extraction
Impacted or partially impacted teeth are planned with attention to nearby nerves and adjacent teeth.
Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Wisdom teeth are clinically and radiographically assessed in cases of pain, infection, decay or pressure on adjacent teeth.
Tooth Extraction
Used for teeth that cannot be restored, may pose infection risk or need removal as part of orthodontic planning.
Cyst-related Surgical Procedures
Cyst-like findings around the jaw bone or root tip are planned according to clinical and radiographic findings.
Bone Grafting
In selected cases with insufficient bone volume, supportive grafting procedures may be included in the treatment plan.
Sinus Lifting
When needed for posterior upper jaw implant planning, the sinus floor and bone support are evaluated.
Apical Resection
For some persistent root-end infections, a surgical option may be considered to help preserve the tooth.
Pre-surgical Radiographic Planning
Imaging, medications, systemic conditions and healing expectations are reviewed before the procedure.
Surgical examination
Symptoms, oral findings, systemic conditions and medication use are assessed together.
Imaging and risk assessment
Panoramic X-rays or dental tomography, when indicated, are used to evaluate anatomical relationships.
Personalised surgical plan
The procedure scope, anaesthesia approach, healing process and follow-up plan are explained.
Surgical procedure
The procedure is performed under sterile conditions according to the planned protocol.
Healing and follow-up
Clear instructions are provided about medication, nutrition, oral care and follow-up appointments.
Does every wisdom tooth need to be removed?
No. Wisdom teeth that do not cause symptoms or harm surrounding tissues can be monitored. Removal depends on pain, infection, decay, pressure or radiographic findings.
Is dental tomography needed for implant surgery?
Three-dimensional assessment is helpful in many implant cases, but not every patient needs the same imaging. Your dentist decides based on bone structure and treatment needs.
How long does healing take after tooth extraction?
Mild soreness and swelling may occur for the first few days. Soft tissue healing usually begins quickly, while complete healing varies by procedure and individual factors.
Does every cyst-like finding require surgery?
Not always. The cause, size, location and symptoms are evaluated. Monitoring or other dental treatments may be appropriate in some cases.
Should I mention my medications before surgery?
Yes. Blood thinners, diabetes medication, osteoporosis medication and all regular medications should be shared with your dentist for safe planning.
